Resource and Energy Emergency Management

Mining is a capital-intensive industry in which wrong decisions come at a high cost. Executives are the experts in operational issues but may benefit from advice in emergency response and recovery.

In reviewing the uranium miner’s crisis planning, Beltin:

  • Examined existing site emergency plans
  • Developed a corporate crisis plan and aligned it with the rest of the business
  • Designed and delivered senior-manager and site training
  • Established procedures for activation and conduct of the site operations room
  • Designed and conducted a live-simulation exercise
  • Assessed the exercise outcome and helped integrate the lessons learned into the development of site and corporate plans

The live simulation tested site response, communications, external reporting, business continuity and resilience. The metric-based assessment of the activity was a primary element of the debrief and led to changes to existing plans and procedures.
